Delahaye Coupe
A special exhibition is currently at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston titled "Sculpted in Steel: Art Deco Automobiles and Motorcycles, 1929–1940". These are the "specials"; the elegant motorcars that were owned by the ultra-rich during the depression era when there were so many soup kitchens and people in breadlines. There were so few of these marvelous vehicles built, that today they are still owned by the super-rich.

The cars are American and European. There are American Chryslers and Cords along with a Packard and a custom Ford as well as what be considered the first minivan, the Stout Scarab.
Also included are two Delahayes from France, a Spanish Hispano-Suiza, a Talbot-Lago from England, and even a Czech Tatra.

Linda and I visited the exhibit this past Friday, and I couldn't stop taking pictures -- you don't want to know how many. So I thought would share a few photos of these magnificent automobiles. If you live in the Houston area, you owe it to yourself to visit the exhibition which will be there through May.

Join me and experience these beautiful machines with the slideshow below.

Thanks for visiting!

Sunday in the Park with Don*

Sunrise at Brazos Bend State Park
I just bought a few toys for my photography, and, as a Valentine's gift, Linda was kind enough to let me go out to Brazos Bend State Park to play with them. She may have also been giving herself a Valentine's treat by getting me out of the house for a few hours, but I prefer not to consider that.

Anyway, I rose early and spent the morning at the park with my camera, and I thought you might like seeing a few of the photos. It was a bit windy, and that cut down on the bird activity, but I managed to find a few guys out enjoying the day.

Spring is definitely in the air. There were several male cardinals out courting in their finest coat of red (well it was Valentine's Day), and a red-shouldered hawk and a white ibis were already gathering material for their nests.

You can use the arrows or just click on Play to enjoy the slide show. And you can click on the two landscape photos to see larger versions.

    "On the road again,

Goin' places that we've never been,

Seein' things that we may never see again,

And we can't wait to get on the road again."
