We spent some time in Santa Claus, Indiana. I was a bit disappointed as they could have made this place so much more tacky. It just really does not come to the high standard of kitsch set by other towns around this great nation. The Wisconsin Dells come to mind.
Sure, there were a lot of Santas around, but where were all the fiberglass elves, toy workshops, and Mrs. Clauses? No Rudolphs nor reindeer games. Thank goodness for the Holiday World amusement park. It had some good ticky-tack, but it loses its impact when it is inside an amusement park.
This photo is probably as close to greatness as anything we saw: a roller-coaster, the Nativity, and a tattooed guy in a sleeveless shirt and flip-flops.

This area is also Abraham Lincoln’s boyhood home, and we visited the memorial and old replica farm. Interestingly, there was no mention of his vampire conquests, but I did see a few wood stakes hanging around that he might have used. But could you really ask for more? Lincoln and Santa Claus. Vampire hunter and gift giver. Life is very good.
We’re now off to Erie, Pennsylvania and some time along the shores of Lake Erie.
