This dahlia is almost perfect except where some little critter took a nip out of one petal. I just love how nature has managed to make the dahlia almost perfectly symmetrical. And its yellow petals radiate out from the center like rays from the sun. I tried to capture the feeling of the sun by taking the shot directly head on.
This photo was taken at the Daniel Boone Homestead in Defiance, Missouri where Boone lived out his last years. The home was owned by his son, Nathan, however Daniel spent most of his last 15 years there. The land was one of a series of land grants given to Boone and his children. Linda and I have also visited his birthplace in Birdsboro, PA, about 1-1/2 hours west of Philadelphia. These are the only two Boone residences still in existence.
